Number one contender dos Santos further proved his rightful place as the next challenger to the title after dominating the heavy-handed Shane Carwin over three rounds this past Saturday night at UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin. Dos Santos was met in the cage by the champion after the fight, with Velasquez stating that he was "excited" to face dos Santos.
