Bell stolen from Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church

A large brass bell that was stolen outside a Beaver County church has been found, thanks to an alert worker at a recycling business.

State police said the bell was taken sometime over the weekend from in front of the Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church on Route 18 in Hookstown.

According to the church webpage, the congregation there first organized in 1790.

A worker at Six Recycling in East Liverpool, Ohio, said someone tried to bring the bell in, but he recognized it as being stolen and called police.

Surveillance video from the recycling business shows people pulling up in a van and going inside, then police showing up and confronting one of them.

Police said they have not charged anyone yet because they need to sort out jurisdictional issues with Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Greg Six said church secretary Chris Kelly will make plans to pick up the bell sometime on Wednesday.
