Tagg Romney (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)Mitt Romney?s son says he?s not interested in running for the Senate seat recently vacated by now-Secretary of State John Kerry in Massachusetts.
Tagg Romney, the oldest son of the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, said in an email to Yahoo News that he?s ?humbled by the outreach? he received from Republicans looking to draft him in the race, but that ?the timing is not right for me.?
Romney added: ?I love my home state and admit it would be an honor to represent the citizens of our great Commonwealth. However, I am currently committed to my business and to spending as much time as I can with my wife and children.?
His comments came on the heels of a Boston Herald report that said leading Republicans in the state were pushing Romney to run and that he was considering the race.
Long rumored as a future political candidate, Tagg Romney is just the latest Republican to skip the race. Last week, GOP officials were stunned when former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, who lost his bid for re-election in November, decided not to run.
But another Republican with close ties to the Romney family is said to be considering the race: Kerry Healey, who served as Mitt Romney?s lieutenant governor in Massachusetts and remains close to the former GOP nominee, is reportedly eying a possible Senate run.
