Gloucestershire struggle against Lancashire on second day of County Championship ? Cricket news
In the Division Two match of the ongoing County Championship between Lancashire and Gloucestershire, the former are in a solid position after posting 310 runs at the end of their first innings.
Meanwhile, Gloucestershire struggled on the second day where their bowlers were taken apart by the opposition and now trail by 167 runs with six wickets remaining in their first innings at Aigburth, Liverpool.
After the county giants Lancashire finished the first day with 175 for the loss of four wickets, they resumed the innings on the second day with Simon Katich on 73 and Steven Croft on 43.
It was important for this pair to stay in the middle for as long as possible in order to break the bowling attack of the opposition.
The batsmen exhibited confidence as they took the score to 209, before the departure of Katich, who crumbled after scoring a magnificent knock of 96 runs off 126 deliveries. This wicket was a major victory for the fielding side as a run later they struck again when Liam Norwell nabbed the wicket of Gareth Cross, who scored only a run before finding his way off the field.
Gloucestershire was now on fire as a run later they struck again when Craig Miles pulverised the stumps of Wayne White for nil. With seven wickets down for 211, Lancashire were in trouble and were heading for a train wreck.
The partnership between Croft and Kyle Hogg was short-lived as with 222 on the board, Croft became the next batsman to find his way off the field after he was dismissed on 62. Meanwhile, Hogg exhibited class as he hammered a 45-run knock right at the end to help his side finish the innings on a high.
From Gloucestershire, Craig Miles was an obvious star with his six-wicket haul. However, his side did not do well at the start of their innings as they lost their first wicket with only four runs on the board. Chris Dent and Dan Housego then crafted a strong second-wicket partnership as they took the score to 43.
Later at stumps with Alex Gidman on 54 and Benny Howell on 32, Gloucestershire were on 143 for the loss of four wickets.
