The popular magazine style and RSS feed mobile app, Flipboard has added Apple iBookstore and Books categories to its list of Content Subscriptions and recommendations. The new iBooks section consists of two dozen book categories found in the iBookstore itself, including Bestsellers, Arts and Entertainment, Cookbooks, Food & Wine, History, Humor, Romance, and Travel & Adventure.
Each category includes the iBooks icon, with short one to two page reviews of selected books available for purchase and download. Each review also includes direct links to the iBookstore on the Apple iTunes site. However, many users may find browsing the iBookstore more user-friendly via the Flipboard app, rather than launching the iBooks app to connect to the store.
Users can add individual book genres to their Flipboard subscriptions, as well as share links to individual reviews via email and social networking sites. Unfortunately, however, though global searches can be made in the app, there doesn?t seem to be a way to filter searches for iBooks reviews.
According to Techcrunch.com, the included iBookstore content opens a new revenue stream for Flipboard because the links to the store are a part of an affiliate program with Apple. It ?means that the board gets a 5% cut of sales that result from purchases made by visitors it drives to the Apple?s digital book marketplace.?
The iBookstore section is accessed by tapping the red ribbon search button on the top-right side of the homepage, followed by ?Books? in the list of Content.
