Who?s buying Ouya?

Anyone that knows the reality of the situation understands this. There?s too many problems with Ouya:

1. It?s a console that plays Android games. Games that, for the most part, were designed from the get go for touch-oriented gameplay.
2. Said games don?t generally benefit from having a controller nor being played on an enormous screen (where all the low resolution textures and low polygon count appear).
3. By the time it hits retail, its hardware will already be outdated (Tegra 4 vs. Tegra 3).
4. Even now, it?s only got about 10 games available for it. There?s a reason for that. Only very small developers are even considering it because the investment just isn?t going to make money for them. Most developers have pushed out release dates way past retail launch, if there?s a date at all. They want to see real success before jumping on board, and it?s not going to happen.
5. As to why it?s not going to happen, it?s a simple matter of numbers. There?s going to be about ~65,000 units out there. That may sound like a lot, but compare it to the MILLIONS you get by releasing for regular Android devices. Not only is there no guarantee that even a quarter of Ouya users will buy your software, but you have to do additional work to make it Ouya-capable and supported.

In the end, it?s a concept that should have remained as a concept.

We?re moving to a point where people will be able to use their smartphones or tablets to accomplish this same task without any additional hardware.

And since consumers are far more likely to upgrade their phones than they are the Ouya (because what?s the point of a $100 device if you buy a new one every year), it makes even less sense.

Eventually, connecting to TVs is going to be a wireless matter, and all it?d take is a solid controller for those who want it.

Ouya?s never going to be able to compete with that. If this console came out 5+ years ago, it?d be a different story.

But now, it?s dead on arrival.
